Detroit Lions release 2020 depth chart and there are a few curious listings

Detroit Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah, the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft, has not been listed as a starter, according to the first depth chart released by the team.

The Lions have veteran Desmond Trufant and Justin Coleman as their two starters at cornerback. But that also might be a clever way of disguising Okudah as a true starter because Coleman is a slot cornerback. That means either Okudah or second-year cornerback Amani Oruwariye would start on the outside opposite Trufant, who played exclusively on the left side during training camp.

Detroit Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah takes a break at practice, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, in Allen Park.

Okudah officially will wear No. 30. He wore No. 1 in camp, which was his number at Ohio State.

Running back D’Andre Swift also got a new number. He’ll wear No. 32. He wore No. 6 in camp.

Unlike Okudah, Swift wasn’t anywhere near the starter’s role. Kerryon Johnson was listed as the starter, followed by newly signed Adrian Peterson, who will wear No. 28, and Ty Johnson. Swift and converted cornerback Jamal Agnew were behind the trio. Agnew was also the second-string slot receiver behind Danny Amendola.

Curiously, Jason Cabinda was listed as a third-string linebacker, even though he has transitioned to being a fullback.

There weren’t any other surprises. On the offensive line, Joe Dahl is the left guard and rookie third-round pick Jonah Jackson is the right guard.

The starting linebackers are Christian Jones, Jarrad Davis and Jamie Collins. On the defensive line, Da’Shawn Hand will start opposite Trey Flowers at end and the tackles are Danny Shelton and Nick Williams. Duron Harmon and Tracy Walker are the safeties.
