Dru Ayala, brother of Drake Ayala, commits to the Iowa wrestling program

Another member of the Ayala family is heading to Iowa City.

Dru Ayala will follow in the footsteps of his brother, Drake, after committing to the Hawkeyes on Monday. He shared the news via social media.

"I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Iowa," Ayala said in an Instagram post. "Go Hawks!"

Dru is the No. 14-ranked wrestler at 113 pounds nationally according to Flowrestling. Currently a senior at Fort Dodge, Ayala was an honorable mention selection on the Register's All-Iowa team last season. He joins Angelo Ferrari (No. 3 pound-for-pound wrestler in high school according to Flowrestling) and Miguel Estrada (three-time California state champion) in the 2024 class for Iowa coach Tom Brands.

His brother, Drake, slots in as Spencer Lee's successor at 125 pounds this season for the Hawkeyes. As Lee's injury replacement in the 2021-22 season, Ayala was an NCAA qualifier. He won all of his matches wrestling unattached in the 2022-23 season with the exception of a match against Lee at the Soldier Salute.
