Less than two weeks from 2017’s National Signing Day, Iowa added a second recruit to its 2018 class.

Offensive lineman Jeff Jenkins announced his verbal commitment on Sunday evening, visiting Iowa City from his Crystal Lake, Ill., home.

Jenkins is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound all-state player at Prairie Ridge High School and rated as a three-star recruit. Iowa became his first Big Ten offer earlier this month, joining suitors from the MAC.

Iowa offensive line coach Brian Ferentz celebrates with running back Akrum Wadley after a touchdown against Iowa State on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

Prairie Ridge won Illinois’ Class 6A state championship last season, and Jenkins has been a starter since his freshman season. He also plays on the defensive line.

Iowa’s first 2018 commitment came from linebacker Mike Bruner in October.
