Connor McCaffery undergoes tonsillectomy, out indefinitely
Dargan SouthardIOWA CITY, Ia. — Hawkeyes backup point guard Connor McCaffery underwent a tonsillectomy Wednesday morning and will be out indefinitely, Iowa announced Wednesday afternoon. The procedure was done as a result of recurring throat infections, as well as McCaffery’s recent case of mononucleosis.
The 6-foot-5 freshman has had a rough start to his collegiate career, having missed 10 games already due to a sprained ankle and the mono bout. McCaffery had played in the last four contests, scoring eight total points while averaging 13 minutes per game.
The loss is a blow to an already-thin Iowa backcourt. The Hawkeyes (8-6) wrap up their nonconference slate Friday against Northern Illinois before resuming Big Ten play next Tuesday versus Michigan.
