For the first time in program history, Iowa State is playing in a New Year's Six bowl.

The Cyclones, who checked in at No. 10 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, will play No. 25 Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona at 3 p.m. on Jan. 2.

Landing in the Fiesta Bowl was the dream scenario for Iowa State after losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship. There was an outside chance that, if Indiana was picked for the Fiesta Bowl, the Cyclones could have fallen to the Alamo Bowl — which would have been a huge disappointment after a season like this.

Here's how social media is reacting to Iowa State's historic bowl berth:

First of all ... there were lots of happy fans.

On the other side of the spectrum, many fans and national sports commentators didn't think Iowa State deserved the Fiesta Bowl berth as a team with three losses, including one to Louisiana-Lafayette. Some of those voices of dissension believed Indiana should have earned the berth.
