Former Ames stars McDermott, Barnes are now NBA teammates in Dallas

DALLAS — Doug McDermott and Harrison Barnes are together again.

The former Ames stars, who led the Little Cyclones to back-to-back Iowa Class 4A state titles in 2009 and 2010, are now NBA teammates after McDermott was traded Thursday, according to ESPN.

Two people with knowledge of the situation say the Denver Nuggets traded Emmanuel Mudiay to New York and acquired Devin Harris from Dallas in a three-team deal that also sent McDermott to the Mavericks. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade could not be completed until it was approved by the NBA.

This is the fourth time McDermott has been traded since being drafted No. 11 overall by the Denver Nuggets in the 2014 NBA Draft. He was traded on draft night to Chicago, where he played parts of three seasons. In February 2017, he was traded from Chicago to Oklahoma City. And this past September, he was traded from the Thunder to the Knicks.

Barnes is in his second season with the Mavericks after playing his first four years in Golden State, which took him with the seventh pick of the 2012 draft.
